We are looking for a mid-level Packaging Engineer for the Boston, MA regional Headquarters. The selected candidate will be a fully charged Packaging Engineer responsible for creating, qualifying, and documenting packaging solutions/systems for Lighting, Energy Solutions, & Solar Technology Products. These products are sold in Consumer Products, Industrial / Commercial, and Specialty / Export Markets. This position works cross-functionally with Product Management, Sales, Marketing, Manufacturing and Logistics. This job demands many skills including multitasking, communication, creativity, data integrity, enterprise software knowledge, mechanical aptitude, packaging design & converting. These skillsets provide the knowledge necessary to excel in the “quick to market” business model LEDVANCE requires.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Design, develop, test, and specify primary, secondary, tertiary packaging and packaging systems for a wide range of products for consumer, industrial/commercial and specialty markets.
- Uses creative collaboration and independent thought when developing alternative packaging solutions.
- Provides Packaging Engineering support developing Packaging bills of material and associated packaging specifications in processing requests.
- Links all appropriate specifications in the database and publishes supportive documentation to all stakeholders and assigned vendors.
- Sales support with packaging prototype and mock-up creation for customer line reviews and planogram strategies.
- Coordinates Benchmarking analysis and Cost Reduction Initiatives for packaging productivity projects including materials, labor, and supply chain efficiencies.
- Creates branded and non-branded one color corrugated graphic specifications and publishes packaging component specifications in database using ISO documentation standards.
- Supports the LEDVANCE Regional & Global Sustainability Initiatives by developing sustainable “paper based” packaging solutions to eliminate foams & plastics.
- Facilitates product transitions from multiple sources replicating existing packaging solutions or provides alternative packaging methodology.
- Identifies non-compliant packaging to resolve quality deficiencies ensuring vendor compliance, reduced product damage risk, and avoids logistic rework.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- BS in Packaging Engineering with 5+ years relevant experience in consumer/retail packaging including point of purchase displays, PDQ packaging solutions and E-Commerce packaging standards.
- Expert Packaging Designer with exceptional mechanical aptitude.
- Strong understanding of packaging design validation process (Design, Develop, Test, and Specify). Must be able to interpret standard or unique packaging design solutions conceptually and create prototypes to validate paper-based solutions for automated and hand-packed applications.
- Extensive packaging materials and converting process knowledge for all packaging material groups including folding carton, corrugated and single-face component parts.
- Experience with packaging performance and product fragility testing utilizing ISTA International safe transit association standards through certified testing labs.
- Working knowledge of Packaging Engineering applications: Esko Artios CAD, Tops, MaxLoad, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Acrobat, WinZip and Kongsberg X22 sample table.
- Strong computer, organizational, and management skills utilizing general MS Office, SAP, Adobe Workfront and ISO documentation standards.
- Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
- Professional affiliations – IOPP Institute of packaging professionals (CPP Certified Packaging Professional credential desired) & ISTA International Safe Transit Association - a plus.
- Familiar with domestic & international shipping regulations - a plus.
- Familiar with Barcode symbology’s: UPC, ITF, EAN, Ident Codes, QR codes, RFID Radio Frequency Identification codes – a plus.
- Supports Logistics distribution and handling optimization initiatives – a plus.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
- Relocation and/or work sponsorship are not available with this position.
- This role will be located in Wilmington, MA and standard office hours are Monday-Friday, 8:30 AM - 5:00 PM.
- The role requires the selected candidate to be on-site at least 3 days per week.
- There is limited travel associated with this position.
- This role is eligible for the LEDVANCE referral bonus program.
