This position will perform site inspections of production processes as well as quality inspections of contract manufacturing facilities located in Mexico. They will advise the manufacturing team of their findings and work with them on corrective actions and improvements. This position will also include inspection and sampling of our warehouse stocks at our distribution center(s). This position will escalate findings in inspections to our manufacturing plants and review corrective action reports. This position may also assist in customer claim resolution including testing of failed product and communicating resolution to customers and sales representatives for those accounts. Claims include technical claims of failed product, installation issues, product safety and loss claims with our product, and retail claims returned by general consumers to our lab. Escalating technical and product issues to product management, manufacturing plant and suppliers for corrective actions.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
  • Develops and implements technically complex methods and procedures to ensure that the products are free of flaws and function as desired. Performs product testing and analysis to ensure that potential defects and failure rates are minimized, and quality levels are maintained in the most efficient and cost-effective manner. Analyzes reports and defective products to determine trends and recommend corrective actions. Interfaces with supplier quality representatives concerning quality problems, ensures that effective corrective action is implemented, and develops supplier quality improvement programs. Represents quality assurance in product design and development projects. Organizes work, follows prescribed methods and guidelines, and recognizes conditions and results that may affect the findings.
  • Evaluate failed product to identify root cause. Propose design and process quality measures and systems to ensure product quality during design and manufacturing phases, often identified as a result of 8D Methodology for resolving the problem.
  • Designing and installing quality control process sampling systems, procedures and statistical techniques for both claim management and finished good inspection.
  • Designs or specifies inspection and testing mechanisms and equipment necessary to troubleshoot customer claims. Recommends revision of specifications when needed and collaborates with manufacturing plants to validate effectiveness.
  • Provide first level technical support to our contract manufacturers for troubleshooting technical issues and improving their quality systems.
  • Conduct customer site visits and report on results. Travel time will have an average of 25%.
  • Ensure that all inspections are handled are appropriately reported within the quality team, so they become part of the feedback to the Business Unit Product, Quality and Supplier Managers
  • Manage Claims; in a manner which reduces the overall cycle time to fully resolve the customer’s claim.



EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Education: B.S. in a science or engineering field with at least 5 years in manufacturing quality or related experience
  • Must have excellent customer service skills
  • Be a self-starter who works well under minimum supervision with some help from supervisor, or more senior technical members of the organization
  • Have excellent verbal and written communication skills in both English and Spanish.
  • Electrical knowledge or background
  • Lighting knowledge or background a plus
  • Manufacturing assembly experience or supervision a plus
  • Must be able to travel internationally to Mexico and other regions as needed, along with ability to travel for extended periods of time up to 1 month is required
  • Must be able to travel to our distribution centers for inspection of finished goods (Pennsylvania, California, Canada and Puerto Rico).
